Article cover

The €500 Main Event WPO Aix-les-Bains saw 2,873 entries, making it the largest 6-max tournament in Europe. The massive interest created a total prizepool of €1,185,974.

Lucas Archeny's victory feels like a fairy tale. The young Frenchman, who works in accounting, began playing poker at 18 through free local club freerolls. He moved on to low-stakes tournaments, and now he's managed to multiply his biggest poker earnings 15 times.

Archeny faced an all-French lineup at the final table, including well-known streamer Mathieu Pontin. In the heads-up, Archeny started with a 3:1 lead but had to fight hard for the title. He lost his advantage yet managed to turn things around in his favor.

In the final hand of the heads-up, Etienne De Soultrait went all-in with T s 9 d, and Archeny called with K c 7 c. The board 6 h 3 s 4 c A h 5 d brought Archeny’s straight, securing him the championship.
