Chess Queen Alex Botez Triumphs at Poker Champs, Bags $250,000

Article cover

The unique event Poker Champs had a strict rule: a ban on participation for professional poker players. The aim was to deliver an entertaining show and introduce poker to a broad audience through eight selected streaming stars.

The tournament was played as a direct knockout bracket for 8 participants in a challenging heads-up format, requiring two winning matches. The total prizepool was set at $500,000, with financial rewards reserved for the top four. Each streamer was paired with a top-tier poker coach (Alex Botez was coached by the renowned Uri Peleg).

Alexandra Botez's path to the title involved three victorious matches. In the first round, Botez triumphed over Eric “erobb221” Robbins Jr., securing her place in the semifinals with a guarantee of at least $50,000.

In the semifinal, she defeated Dennis “PaymoneyWubby” Richardson. The key moment was her all-in with K h 3 s on a board of K d T s 4 h T h 2 d, against an opponent holding Q h Q d, opening the door to the grand finale.

In the final match, Botez faced Thomas “sodapoppin” Morris. She won the first game after completing a straight and reading her opponent's bluff. The second game was decided on the flop A s A d 2 s, where Botez called her opponent's all-in with T h T d. Sodapoppin bluffed with K d 4 s, and the turn 6 d and river J c sealed his fate. Alexandra Botez thus claimed her highest poker prize to date without losing a single match.
