EPT Barcelona: Wheeler Wins PS Open Main Event, EPT Main Event Kicks Off

The spectacular start to the event came from the €1,650 PSO Main Event, which recorded a massive 4,333 entries, boosting the prizepool to €6,239,520.

The early paid stages were dominated by American WSOP Main Event finalist Han Feng. However, just like in Las Vegas, his final day in Barcelona didn't go as planned, and after a string of unlucky hands, he exited in 6th place, taking home €148,610.

The champion's title, after a heads-up battle with Sweden's Alexander Ivarsson, went to seasoned American pro Jason Wheeler. Wheeler's reward of €731,000 marks a new personal best in his tournament career, pushing his total earnings over $6 million.

Wheeler has once again proven his prowess on European soil, securing his seventh EPT trophy in his career.

Eychenne Chases Barcelona Double

The €2,700 PS Open High Roller is also drawing significant attention, attracting a fiercely competitive field. The tournament saw 1,551 entries, bringing the prizepool to €3,761,175, with €589,395 awaiting the winner.

After Day 2, only 14 finalists remain in contention for the title. Leading the pack is Frenchman Thomas Eychenne with a stack of 7,100,000 chips.

Eychenne has a unique opportunity to craft an incredible story, having won the Barcelona EPT Main Event last year last year and now aiming for another coveted trophy.

However, other well-known names like Scott Margereson, Zdeněk Žížka, and the last woman standing, Marte Sandberg, aim to halt his progress.

Main Event Underway with an Irish Touch

The highly anticipated highlight of the festival, the prestigious €5,300 EPT Main Event, has successfully started with Day 1A. The opening flight recorded 635 entries, with the preliminary prizepool already reaching €3,079,750, and this figure is expected to soar during flight 1B.

After ten levels, 193 players advanced to Day 2. Irishman Michael Dwyer led the pack with a stack of 363,500 chips. Veteran EPT London 2005 champion Mark Teltscher also performed brilliantly, securing the third spot.

Omaha Elite Battles for Hundreds of Thousands

For lovers of four-card and high stakes, the exclusive €25K PLO High Roller was on the schedule. Day 1 of the tournament recorded 26 entries, raising the prizepool to €624,260. Late registration remains open until the start of Day 2, so there's room for growth.

The opening day filtered the field down to the top 15 players. Leading the provisional rankings is Austrian player Klemens Roiter, who also dominated the €25K NLH event earlier in the series.

Interestingly, Finnish players have shown great success, with five making it into the top ten.
