From Free Ticket to £22,500 - Daniel Smith Dominates Main Event at PartyPoker Tour London

After a successful stop in Manchester, the PartyPoker Tour moved to London, once again proving its strong presence on the UK scene. Following the successful Mini Main Event won by Ben Skinner, the spotlight shifted to the Main Event with a £500 buy-in, attracting 190 entries and awarding ITM finishes to the top 28 players. The min-cash was valued at £500, while the winner took home £22,500.

Even before the final day, it was clear that the title wouldn't come easily. The final table featured an intriguing lineup, including former PartyPoker Tour Main Event winner Deniz Orhan, seasoned player Chris Yong, Irishman Barry Donovan, and future champion Daniel Smith. Smith and Yong entered the finale with significant stacks, setting the early pace.

Vikrum Mehta was the first to exit, followed by James Marshall. Ivan Meister finished in seventh place, and James Korek took sixth. Deniz Orhan, looking to add another title to his name, finished fourth for £7,750.

Barry Donovan settled for third place with £10,000, entering heads-up with Chris Yong holding a substantial lead. With 6,890,000 in chips compared to Smith's 2,605,000, Yong seemed poised to claim the title. However, heads-up play can quickly change the game's dynamic. Smith demonstrated patience and timing, showing that these traits often outweigh an initial stack advantage.

The key turning point came when Smith doubled up with 9 s 9 h against Yong's 6 h 6 c. Shortly after, he further increased his stack with K s K h, gaining control of the duel he wouldn't relinquish. The decisive hand unfolded at blinds of 50,000/100,000, when Yong shoved his 20bb stack with K d 7 d. Smith called with K c J c. The flop T c 4 c 2 c sealed the victory.

Yong was drawing dead before the turn, and Smith celebrated with his rail, raising the trophy and concluding one of the most remarkable stories of the London stop. Previously, Smith's most notable success was in the Mystery Bounty event at The Festival in Bratislava in 2023, where he earned £18,000. In London, he achieved an even greater result, all from a tournament he entered with a free ticket.
