Jumalon Unflappable, Yet Stumbles Early
All eyes were on Lucas Jumalon, the 22-year-old newcomer with minimal live tournament experience, who entered the finale with a massive lead. When asked if he felt nerves kicking in, he smiled: “Not at all. We're just here to play cards and whatever happens, happens.”
Though Jumalon started aggressively, increasing his stack early on, he soon faced a significant hiccup. In a showdown against the seasoned Michael Gagliano, Jumalon attempted a daring bluff with a six-high. He fired a big bet on the turn but couldn't muster the courage for a third raise on the river, allowing Gagliano to take down a massive pot with ace-high. Despite this setback, Jumalon ended the day as the chip leader with 212,000,000 (85 BB).
Han Feng's Dazzling Day
If anyone stole the show outside of the game itself, it was Han Feng. He arrived at the final table in an eye-catching outfit featuring a pink feather boa and an open shirt showing off his abs. Luck was on his side, too.
Feng began at second to last in the chip count and found himself all-in with less than 10 blinds holding A-4 against Mario Boos’ A-Q. A four on the turn kept him alive and launched a spectacular run.
Feng methodically accumulated chips, finishing the day by winning a crucial pot with Q-Q against Saaskilahti’s J-8, moving into second place with 106.5 million.
First Casualties at the Final Table
The fairytale ended for Evagoras Evagorou, the first Cypriot to reach the Main Event finale. His pair of J s J h couldn’t hold against Jamie Shaevel's A h Q d, and an ace on the flop sealed his fate in ninth place with a $1,000,000 payout.
An hour later, Frenchman Mario Boos followed, as his pair of 8 d 8 h couldn't stand up to Lauri Saaskilahti’s K h 9 c. A nine on the flop knocked out Boos, who leaves with $1,250,000.
The tournament continues with the second final day, and four players returning with less than 20 blinds.
