Mayukha Chakraborty Wins the Main Event at WSOP Super Circuit Canada for $1.5 Million

The guaranteed C$5K WSOP Super Circuit Main Event went down in history with a massive turnout of 2,844 entries. This pushed the total prizepool to an impressive 13,082,400 CAD, surpassing the initial 10-million guarantee. A total of 428 players landed in the money, with a minimum payout of 10,000 CAD.

Changes to the Payout Structure in the ITM Phase

Even though the tournament was a huge success from a gameplay perspective, organizers couldn't avoid a controversy that cast a shadow on the achievement. About an hour into Day 3, when players were already in the money and dozens had been eliminated, organizers made an unexpected decision.

An older payout structure model was mistakenly set in the system, originally allocating 2,000,000 CAD to the winner (over 15% of the total prizepool) and reserving 47% of the total sum for the final table. However, WSOP representatives decided to change and redistribute this structure after the bubble burst.

The first-place prize was reduced from one day to the next to a final 1,500,000 CAD, and the share for the final table dropped from 47% to 42.5%, with the savings redirected to lower placements.

This move triggered a massive wave of discontent among players. Changing the payout structure during a tournament directly affects player strategies and risk assessments.

A Milestone Victory for Mayukh Chakraborty

Canadian player Mayukh Chakraborty took home the title after defeating compatriot Benjamin Veenstra in the final heads-up. Despite the reduced champion's prize, Chakraborty recorded his career high and earned his first WSOPC gold ring. 

Runner-up Veenstra also walked away with a seven-figure sum, marking a new personal best. Chance Kornuth, considered the top favorite due to his extensive track record and career achievements, finished in fourth place.

Final Table Results of Event #7: C$5,000 Super Circuit Main Event

Super High Roller Champion Michael Wang

The highlight for high-stakes enthusiasts was the 25K Super High Roller. A total of 24 entries created a prizepool of 576,000 CAD.

With a smaller field, the payout structure favored the top 4 players. Three Canadian players survived the bubble, but American Michael Wang claimed the overall title and the top prize.

Wang outlasted local Charles La Boissoniere in the final battle, adding a third WSOPC ring to his three WSOP bracelets.
