Nevan Chang Dominates Record-Breaking Superstar Challenge to Claim His 10th APT Title

Article cover

The prestigious Superstar Challenge, featuring the highest buy-in in APT series history (~$27,300), attracted 51 entries. This represents the largest participation in this event since its buy-in was increased in 2024. The total prizepool reached 1,785,127,500 KRW (~$1.33 million).

On the final day of play, 26 contenders returned, with the journey to the money spots filled with dramatic moments. Two-time event champion Joseph Cheong was eliminated when his A-A was cracked by Nang Quang Nguyen, who hit quads with his K-K.

The unlucky bubble boy was Ryuta Nakai, finishing in 12th place, when his 6-6 fell short against Nevan Chang’s 8-8. Experienced Dutchman Rob Hollink entered the nine-player final table as the chipleader. Nevan Chang was in 5th place, but he displayed ruthless dominance, personally eliminating five of his eight opponents.

Heading into the heads-up match, Nevan Chang had a 2:1 chip lead over Rudy Edenata. The finale was swift, lasting just three hands. After the turn Q d 2 d 8 d Q h, Edenata went all-in and Chang called. Edenata had two pairs with 9 h 8 s, but Chang had already completed a flush on the flop with T d 7 d. The river 2 c was safe for Chang, sealing his triumphant victory.
