PartyPoker Tour Madrid: Alexey Neofitov Turns Final Table into His Own Show and Conquers the Main Event

Article cover

The latest stop on the international PP Tour Live series landed in Madrid, culminating in the €500 Main Event. With 535 entries, it generated a prize pool of €238,075, the lion’s share of which was distributed in Sunday's finale.

The event had a clear frontrunner—Russian player Alexey Neofitov entered the decisive phase as a force to be reckoned with, turning the final table into a one-man show. When he eliminated Ashley Brown, whose pocket Aces fell to Neofitov's 8♠6♠, it catapulted the Russian to a 10-million chip stack that only kept growing.

From that moment, it became increasingly clear that the other finalists were playing for second place, simply seeing who could withstand Neofitov the longest. One by one, David Lamas, Alejandro Rubio, Nicolas Le Floch, and Raphael Lenaerts were eliminated, with Neofitov often dispatching opponents with the cold certainty of a chip leader.

In the final heads-up match, he faced Hugo Caldeira De Brites from Portugal. Before the final showdown, a deal was struck, guaranteeing Neofitov €35,750, Caldeira €31,750, with €7,500, the trophy, and the title still to play for.

The decisive hand came shortly after. Neofitov went all-in from the button, and Caldeira called with K♣5♣. The Russian player revealed J♦10♦. After a flop of Q♠5♣8♣, the Portuguese player had a pair and a flush draw. However, the turn brought 9♠, giving Neofitov a straight, and the river 4♥ changed nothing. Caldeira finished second for €31,750, while Neofitov was crowned the PartyPoker Tour Madrid champion.
