PartyPoker Tour Seville: Mini Main Event Ends with Home Victory for Juan Anguas

Article cover

The PartyPoker Tour festival, held in the Andalusian capital at Casino Admiral Seville, follows a format that proved successful in the UK. The schedule features affordable buy-ins, multiple starting flights, and a strong mix of hold'em and Omaha events. Main attractions include the €500 Main Event with a €100,000 guarantee and its precursor, the €150 Mini Main Event with a €50,000 guarantee.

The Mini Main Event kicked off the festival on Monday with four starting flights. The initial Day 1a flight recorded 228 entries, marking the largest opening flight in Mini Main Event history for the PartyPoker Tour. After all starting days concluded, the tournament tallied 653 entries, far exceeding the €50,000 guarantee with a prize pool of €81,625. A total of 98 players advanced to Day Two.

The first days featured well-known names. Peggy “Pocket Peg” Crawford dominated Day 1a, entering the tournament as one of the standout figures. PartyPoker Tour ambassador Niall “Firaldo” Farrell was also in the mix, adding to the media interest in the field. After a hectic Day 2, the field was reduced to 14 players, with Crawford heading into the decisive day as chipleader. Farrell remained within striking distance, and organizers prepared a livestream of the featured table:

As the nine-player final table formed, Crawford still led with 4,755,000 chips. Behind her were Gilberto Lopez, Carlos Gomez, Farrell, and Jonas Araujo, while Juan Anguas entered the final round in ninth with 1,270,000 chips, only eight blinds deep. At the time, he seemed more like a quiet home shortstack rather than a main contender for the title.

The final day, however, unfolded quite differently than expected. Hady Sirbu was the first out, finishing in ninth place, followed by Farrell, who secured €1,430 for eighth place. Crawford only made it one position higher. After losing a substantial part of her stack to a bluff against Araujo’s flush, she couldn't recover, and her K-Q fell short against Anguas’s A-10. She earned €1,780 for her seventh-place finish.

After Crawford's exit, only a Spanish sextet remained, and a critical moment in the tournament arrived. The last six players agreed to a deal, guaranteeing Jonas Araujo the largest payout of €8,150, but the battle for the trophy and an additional €4,000 for the winner continued. Here, Anguas started his decisive run. He eliminated Fernando Banda, followed by Rodriguez, Lopez, and finally Carlos Gomez, propelling himself into the heads-up confrontation.

Entering the final showdown, Araujo had approximately a 2:1 chip lead. However, Anguas erased the deficit, equalizing chip stacks, then secured victory in a pivotal all-in pre-flop clash with his K-10 holding against Araujo’s J-9 suited. Araujo finished second with an €8,150 payout, while Juan Anguas sealed a home triumph, earning the trophy and a total of €9,770.
