Sam Soverel Clinches Opening Event of PGT PLO Series, Securing His 16th PGT Title

The inaugural event of the four-card poker festival, with a $5,300 buy-in, saw 91 entries, building a prize pool of $455,000. The top 13 players took home financial rewards.

Sam Soverel joined the tournament just before the late registration closed and quickly climbed to the top of the leaderboard. He entered the 7-player final table as the chipleader, holding roughly a third of all chips in play.

Soverel extended his lead at the start of the final table by eliminating Michael Wang in 7th place and Sean Winter in 6th. His dominant performance propelled him into the heads-up, where he faced Jonas Kronwitter.

In the decisive hand, Kronwitter went all-in with A h 8 h 6 c 3 h after the flop T h 7 h 3 c. Soverel called with A c A d 5 d 2 c. The turn 5 s and river 7 c didn't help the Austrian, awarding Soverel his third PGT title of the calendar year.

With this victory, Soverel increased his record on the PokerGO Tour to 16 wins, with second-place Alex Foxen trailing by three titles. This triumph also pushed his live tournament career earnings past $33 million (according to The Hendon Mob).
