Sensation in Aix-en-Provence: Former Cash Game Pro Matthieu Cartillier Dominates Main Event WSOPC

A "Random Guy" Triumphs Over Elites

The Main Event, with a buy-in of €1,500, attracted a total of 783 entries, creating a massive prize pool of €1,014,768. Despite numerous star-studded participants, the trophy went to amateur player Matthieu Cartillier, who humbly described himself post-win as just a "random guy with random moves".

Cartillier is no newcomer in the poker world. A decade ago, he was a professional online cash game player but chose a career in accounting several years back.

The final table was dominated by Cartillier, who entered it as the chipleader. The heads-up showdown against Michel Leibgorin was, according to commentators, a one-sided affair. Within minutes, Cartillier hit two pairs, a set, and a full house. In the decisive hand, his K d Q s held strong against his opponent's K s 9 h, sealing his career-defining victory.

Beyond claiming his first WSOPC ring and a €150,000 prize, Cartillier also received a $5,000 package to WSOP Paradise in the Bahamas, although he humorously mentioned he still needs his wife's approval for the trip.
