Record-Breaking Prizepool for Texas
The Main Event, with a $1,700 buy-in and an initial guarantee of $1,000,000, sparked huge interest among players. It attracted 1,709 entries, creating the largest tournament prizepool in Texas history of $2,589,135, with the biggest share going to Thomas “Trey” Brabham.
Brabham pocketed an incredible $368,545 for his victory, along with his second WSOP Circuit gold ring and a $5,000 package for the WSOP Paradise event in the Bahamas in December.
The road to the title wasn’t easy, as you can see from the final table's livestream on YouTube:
In the final showdown, Thomas Brabham faced David Mzareulov. Brabham held onto his lead in the heads-up play, gradually increasing it. In the decisive hand of the night, Brabham, with A c J s, put his opponent all-in, which Mzareulov called with K h Q h.
The board 8 d 6 d 8 s 7 d 2 s offered no help to either player, securing Brabham the win with his ace-high. David Mzareulov, for his outstanding second place performance, took home $245,090.
