German Dominance in Montenegro

The current Triton event in Montenegro is exceptional for German players. The series of victories for German-speaking professionals started right from the festival's outset:

  • Event #3 ($30K NLH) was dominated by Austrian talent Mario Mosböck, who walked away with $928,000.

  • Event #4 ($40K Mystery Bounty) was claimed by the legendary Fedor Holz.

  • In event #5, German Christopher Nguyen secured his first Triton title and a $1,535,000 prize.

This impressive run was now crowned by Christoph Vogelsang, who in Event #9 proved that the German poker school currently faces no competition in Europe.

Fraternal Heads-Up

The tournament with a $50,000 buy-in attracted a total of 118 entries, bringing the prizepool to nearly $6 million ($5,900,000). Although the field was packed with stars like Bryn Kenney and Kayhan Mokri, the final stages were ruled exclusively by “DACH” players (Germany and Austria).

When it was down to the last three, only German-speaking players remained: Thomas Mühlöcker (Austria), Leonard Maue (Germany), and Christoph Vogelsang (Germany). At this stage, the players agreed on an ICM deal, dividing millions and playing for the trophy and an extra $100,000 for the winner.

Vogelsang, already a two-time winner of Triton Poker Series titles, leveraged his experience. He first eliminated Austrian Mühlöcker in third place and immediately sealed his victory in the heads-up against Maue. Vogelsang called Maue’s all-in with K h 5 h against A h Q c and triumphed thanks to a king on the flop.

Christoph Vogelsang earned a total reward of $1,037,858 for this victory, capturing his third title on the Triton circuit. His performance brought him closer to Fedor Holz at the top of the German historical earnings leaderboard.
