Triton SHRS Montenegro: Dan Dvoress Makes History with Third Triton Title, Richard Gryko Stops Koon

Article cover

Richard Gryko Defeats a Legend

British Omaha specialist Richard Gryko once again showed that Maestral Resort & Casino is his domain. Exactly one year and one day after claiming his first Triton trophy here, he hoisted a second. Last year, he won the $50K event, and this time he triumphed in a $75,000 buy-in tournament, attracting a field of 59 entries and creating a prizepool of $4,425,000.

Gryko maintained the chipleader position for an extended period, but faced off against the series' most successful player, Jason Koon. Koon tried to unsettle him and even succeeded in making Gryko fold a full house during the bubble with a successful bluff. Koon gradually overtook Gryko’s lead.

However, in the final heads-up, Gryko turned his luck around. "In the heads-up, the deck just hit me right in the face, and it was all over quite quickly," Gryko said, earning $1,243,000 for the victory.

Koon will have to wait for his record-breaking thirteenth Triton title. He pocketed $879,000 as a consolation for his second-place finish.

Dan Dvoress's Astonishing Hat Trick

The festival concluded with the $25,000 PLO Turbo Bounty Quattro event, bringing a historic feat. Canadian pro Dan Dvoress achieved something unprecedented in Triton history – becoming the first player to win three titles at a single festival. Dvoress won the opening $25K NLH event, took down the prestigious $100K PLO Main Event, and cemented his dominance with a win in the final turbo bounty.

The tournament saw 46 entries and played out at a breakneck pace. According to Dvoress, he was “running on fumes” from previous exertions, yet managed to defeat Lautaro Guerra in heads-up. For first place, he pocketed $255,000, along with an additional $112,500 in bounty rewards thanks to his aggressive play.

Hall of Famer Patrik Antonius also earned the same bounty reward, finishing in third place.
