Tobias Schwecht Capitalizes on a Massive Lead

Event number 13 introduced the refreshing “Half and Half” format, alternating between No Limit Hold’em and Pot Limit Omaha. The tournament attracted a total of 53 entries, creating a prize pool of $1,590,000.

The star of the event was 33-year-old German pro Tobias Schwecht. He paved his way to victory early on, securing a massive 200-big-blind stack by winning a colossal showdown with A-A against Tom Vogelsang’s Q-Q. Schwecht entered the final day as the overwhelming chipleader, commanding 40% of all chips in play.

The final table was a star-studded affair with players like Isaac Haxton, who exited in 7th place, and Artur Martirosian, who finished 6th. Although Schwecht dominated the game, Russian player Anatoly Zlotnikov staged an incredible comeback, entering the final heads-up as the chipleader with 79 BBs to Schwecht's 54 BBs.

Zlotnikov has been enjoying a stellar run at the current festival. Aside from winning Event #2 ($25K NLH), he also scored four more final table appearances, giving him a slight psychological edge over his opponent. However, Schwecht remained composed, quickly regaining the lead through aggressive heads-up play.

The decisive hand occurred during a PLO round on a board of 3 h Q d 8 s 2 h T h, where both players completed flushes. Zlotnikov’s J h 9 h 8 h 8 c flush fell short against Schwecht’s Q h J d 9 s 4 h.

This marks Schwecht's first Triton series title, earning him $465,000. “It's an amazing feeling. I've come close to winning a trophy several times, but the final tables had eluded me before. Coming in with such a big stack this time, I felt the pressure to finish the job,” said the emotional champion.
