WPT Prime Cyprus: Million-Dollar Prime Event on Hold, but the Festival Rolls On

Article cover

The global political landscape continues to spark one conflict after another, and the poker community hasn't been spared. In an official announcement, the World Poker Tour addressed the ongoing WPT stop in Cyprus, stating they're closely monitoring developments in the Eastern Mediterranean and surrounding regions. Due to canceled flights, WPT team members are unable to reach Cyprus, leading to the decision to postpone the $1,100 WPT Prime Cyprus Championship to a later date.

While the flagship event of the series is on pause, the rest of the festival at Chamada Prestige Hotel & Spa will proceed as planned, thanks to the experienced team on site. The adjusted schedule still includes a $1,100 No Limit Hold’em tournament, ensuring that traveling players or those already in Cyprus don't miss out on the main attraction.

The WPT has also advised players to stay in touch with their airlines, follow official sources, and make decisions based on the most current information. In poker terms: now is not the time for a 'hero call'—it's more about making a disciplined fold and patiently waiting for a new date.

What's Next

When exactly the WPT Prime Cyprus Championship will take place is still unclear. WPT has only confirmed that the tournament will be rescheduled for 'a later date.' The next major event on the WPT schedule is set to be the Rolling Thunder Championship with a $3,500 buy-in, highlighting that the tour moves forward—it's just that Cyprus will have to wait this time.
