The Most Intense $600 Final Table in History?
Event #28: $600 Deepstack Mixed NLH/PLO will go down in history as a tournament with an exceptionally strong final table, worthy of a prestigious High Roller. The battle for the title in this combination of two popular disciplines saw a massive 3,332 entries, pushing the prize pool to $1,679,328.
The composition of the final nine left fans and experts breathless—players gathered with over 60 WSOP Circuit rings and 10 gold bracelets among them.
The spotlight was on Daniel Negreanu, making his first final table appearance this summer. However, “Kid Poker” finished in 8th place after an unlucky PLO hand, where his flush couldn't hold up against Maurice Hawkins' full house. Likewise, the star Alex Foxen missed a fourth bracelet, finishing fifth.
An Early Exit for Daniel Negreanu@RealKidPoker looked set for a crucial double-up after turning a flush against @mauricehawkins.

Miraculous Comeback in Heads-Up
The decisive battle for the title was a clash of two worlds. On one hand stood Maurice Hawkins, a historical record-holder in WSOP Circuit rings (25), desperately seeking his first bracelet, and on the other hand, the lesser-known but determined Brent Gregory. Hawkins entered heads-up with a significant lead, but Gregory managed to double his stack twice, completely shifting the game's momentum.
In the final hand (in PLO format), players went all-in on the flop 2 c J d 4 d. Hawkins held two pairs with K d J s 9 c 2 s, while Gregory had a set of fours with 7 h 5 s 4 h 4 c. The turn 6 d and river 9 s did not change the outcome, and Brent Gregory claimed both the bracelet and his highest career win of $204,140.
Brent Gregory expressed humility after the tournament considering the caliber of opponents he faced. “I'd be lying if I said I wasn't nervous,” Gregory admitted in an interview after his victory. “Foxen, Negreanu, Reichard – all of them. There were several players at the table better than me. Somehow, I managed to triumph against some of the world's best players.”
