Event #86: $600 NLH Ultra Stack was a perfect example of an accessible tournament that attracts masses of players. A total of 8,007 entries created a prizepool of $4,035,528.
The final day saw the last 16 players returning, and they reached the unofficial ten-player final table in the first level of the day. Among the finalists was renowned American professional Michael “Texas Mike” Moncek, who exited in 9th place, confirming a new WSOP champion would be crowned.
The final duel for the title saw American Eric Weber facing off against Frenchman Henry Benamram. Both players entered the heads-up with nearly identical stacks, signaling a long battle which ultimately lasted three hours.
The decision came when Weber went all-in with a dominant hand K h K d and Benamram opted for a call with J d 9 h. The flop 4 s T c 8 h gave the Frenchman hope with a straight draw, but the turn T h and river J s failed to help.
The triumph caused logistical complications for Weber. “I was supposed to go home this morning, but I made it to the final day. I had to change my flight and book another room,” he revealed with a laugh.
He added that winning the prestigious bracelet means much more than just the financial gain: “Beyond the money, every poker player dreams of winning a bracelet. Whether it's the Main Event or this tournament, it doesn't matter. A bracelet is a bracelet. Thousands of people come here every year, so it means a lot to me.”
