WSOP 2026: Ethan "Rampage" Yau Defeats Mateos to Claim Second Bracelet (Online Event #16)

Article cover

Online Event #16: $5K NLH High Roller 6-Max Championship was one of the most-watched events this year. The tournament featured a unique hybrid format, with the initial rounds played online, but the last six players met under the bright lights at Horseshoe & Paris Las Vegas. The event attracted 226 entries, creating a $1,130,000 prizepool.

Yau drew attention not only for his play but for his quirky talisman—a rare Pokémon card, Rayquaza Gold Star from 2005, said to be worth as much as the tournament's winning prize. “I initially planned to sell it, but then I won the same amount in just two days. It felt like the card was telling me: Don’t sell me!” the new champion laughed.

First Heads-up Defeat for Adrian Mateos

The final table showcased poker elite. Nick Schulman aimed for his ninth bracelet, while Spanish maestro Adrian Mateos was on the hunt for his seventh title. Mateos was viewed as a clear favorite, holding an undefeated 6-0 record in WSOP heads-ups for a bracelet until now.

Rampage wasn't fazed, maintaining control for most of the duel. In the tournament's last hand, Yau's Q-Q topped Mateos's T-9, putting an end to a three-year period without a tournament win and silencing the skeptics.
