WSOP 2026: Jason Zipfel Clinches First Gold Bracelet in PLO (Event #35)

Article cover

Event #35: $1,500 PLO drew 2,581 entries, generating a prize pool of $3,426,277 with over $440,000 up for grabs for the winner. The title surprisingly went to a player who had never previously cashed in a PLO tournament.

Jason Zipfel, who primarily focuses on private cash games and plays only a few tournaments each year, entered the final day as the chipleader and maintained this position, despite a minor slip, to the very end. Displaying remarkable aggression at the final table, he personally eliminated five of his eight opponents.

In the closing heads-up, he faced the experienced Hokyiu Lee from Hong Kong. Although Lee briefly took the lead, Zipfel countered, and the victory was sealed when Zipfel's aces, with A h A d J s 5 h, held up against K c 9 d 7 d 4 c on a board of J d 3 d 6 c Q s 7 c.

"I felt much more comfortable in this PLO tournament than in Hold'em, even though I play Hold'em more," admitted Zipfel, for whom this success is the pinnacle of his career to date.
