Event #88: $300 Gladiators of Poker once again showcased the power of mass-entry, low buy-in tournaments. With an impressive 11,185 entries, the tournament generated a total prize pool of $2,751,510. The title went to Johnny Oshana, a mechanical engineer by profession, who has been playing poker recreationally for 16 years but only recently started taking the game more seriously.
The path to victory was far from easy for Oshana. Although he entered the final day in second place, an early loss against Kenneth Baime set him back among the short stacks. However, Oshana used the setback as motivation. “I told myself I was going to win this. I was patient and waited for the right spots,” he said after the victory.
In the final heads-up showdown, he faced the experienced veteran Kenneth Baime. Their battle lasted over an hour, with the lead shifting multiple times. In the decisive hand, Baime pushed with an all-in holding A d Q c against Oshana's 7 h 7 d. The board 7 s J s 6 c 9 s 2 s gave Oshana a set of sevens, sealing his victory.
