WSOPC Las Vegas: Peters Comes Second Again, This Time Justin Lapka Surpasses Him

Event #17: $5K High Roller attracted a strong field of 83 entries to the Horseshoe Las Vegas. Although it seemed for a long time that David Peters, who recently secured his fifth gold bracelet, would walk away with the ring, the day belonged to Justin Lapka. His journey to the ring was nothing short of a roller coaster.

At the beginning of the final stage, Lapka fell to a complete short stack with less than six big blinds after a failed hand with A-9 against Peters' A-K. “It was a roller coaster. I sent A-9 into orbit and was left with just five or six blinds. It's about having faith and not letting past hands affect you,” Lapka remarked after his victory.

A pivotal ‘miracle’ moment came in a three-player hand when Lapka with A h Q h faced Peters with A d J c. The board K c J d J h favored Peters, but the river T d completed Lapka’s straight, bringing him back into contention.

The pair faced off again in the heads-up, where Lapka gradually turned the tables. In the decisive hand, on the board J d 6 c T s 7 h K s, Lapka found a higher pair with J h 2 h against Peters' T d 8 d, marking Lapka’s fourth triumph on the WSOPC circuit.
