Schemion Claims Second Bracelet Amidst Controversy
Event #9: €5,300 PLO European Championship attracted 379 entries, creating a prize pool of €1,895,000. After nearly ten hours of final table combat, German prodigy Ole Schemion celebrated his second career gold bracelet.
As the final table drew to a close, it seemed Michael Moncek was on track for his third WSOP bracelet, having built a significant lead. However, Schemion ultimately eliminated Moncek in 3rd place. In the ensuing heads-up, the German player defeated Santtu Leinonen to pocket €395,000.
The tournament was overshadowed by an incident involving Norwegian player Birger Larsen, who was disqualified from 30th place during Day 2. Clearly under the influence of alcohol, Larsen became increasingly disruptive at the table. Following a penalty, he couldn't keep his emotions in check, escalating his aggressive behavior. The floor manager was compelled to eject him from the tournament immediately.

Mike Leah Conquers Continental Showdown
The unique format of the €2,750 Rounder Cup pitted Europe against the Rest of the World, with initial flights divided by players' origins. This intriguing setup attracted 647 entries, generating a prize pool of €1,617,500.
Ultimately, the representative of the Rest of the World, Canada's Mike Leah, emerged victorious. Claiming his second career bracelet and €292,000 in prize money, Leah ended a long drought. The Canadian's first bracelet came in 2014 at the now-defunct WSOP Asia-Pacific series.
The tournament concluded with a thrilling heads-up battle, where Leah made several crucial double-ups and eventually triumphed in a decisive hand. He held A s A h against Georgian Tornike Tchkonia's A c 2 s.
The final table also saw Shaun Deeb, who is defending his Player of the Year 2025 title. While a tournament win remains elusive, consistent performances have already propelled him to the top of the 2026 POY leaderboard.

Obrestad Misses Second Main Event Title
On Day 4 of the €5,300 Main Event, the field was narrowed from 85 to the final 25. Finnish newcomer Hengtao Zhu surprised everyone by leading. Entering the event with minimal live experience, Zhu packed a massive 16,395,000 chips after a series of major wins. Following closely is UK pro Brandon Sheils with a stack of 15,935,000.
Day 4 was unfortunate for two major female stars. The fairytale return of legendary Annette Obrestad ended in 34th place (€40,000), as her pair of deuces couldn't hold against Sondre Stormyr.

Just minutes before, reigning double Ladies Event champion Shiina Okamoto met the same fate in 37th place (€40,000). Her Aces were no match for Vasileios Panagiotidis' quad Jacks. Others like Josh Arieh (44th place) and Jarry Odeen (60th place) also exited the tournament.
