Luca Topazio Wins Main Event at WSOPC Malta, Takes Home €200,000

Article cover

The historic first WSOPC Main Event in Malta attracted a total of 879 entries, pushing the total prizepool to €1,115,451, with payouts distributed among the top 134 players.

Topazio entered the final table as the third in chips but quickly moved to the top of the leaderboard. The real challenge came for the eventual winner during the final four showdown.

Radoslaw Kopec, who initially doubled through Topazio, took the lead and began to build a promising stack. Topazio, however, responded with an impressive hero call in a massive pot against Kopec and subsequently knocked out Dutchman Lucas van den Belt in third place with a pair of 5 h 4 c against 3 d 3 c.

Entering heads-up play, Topazio held a commanding chip lead at 5:1 against Kopec. The duel lasted just two hands. In the decisive hand, Topazio went all-in with 5 c 3 c, while Kopec pushed his remaining chips with K h J d. The board Q s 3 s Q h 3 d T s gave Topazio a full house, sealing his victory.

For Kopec, it was another unlucky second-place finish in the WSOP Circuit, having finished runner-up last year at the Main Event in Middelkerke. Meanwhile, Italian Luca Topazio built upon his previous career highlight from 16 years ago at the Italian Poker Tour.
