Two Titles and a Charge for the Record
Niklas Astedt, who two years ago took 3rd place at the WSOP Main Event in Las Vegas for $4 million and also earlier this year dominated the €50K High Roller at EPT Paris, has once again showcased his exceptional skills.
Astedt secured his first triumph of the current series in event WCOOP 21-H: $1,050 PLO. Facing 86 entries, he emerged victorious, pocketing $20,976 for first place. At the final table, he conquered elite opponents including Patrick "pads1161" Leonard (5th place) and Renan "Internett93o" Bruschi (6th place).
The very next evening, he entered the WCOOP 26-H: $5,200 Thursday Thrill HR PKO. In a tough field of 58 entries, he fought his way to the final heads-up, defeating Portuguese star pro Joao "Naza114" Vieira. Astedt's victory garnered him a total of $103,281 ($34,219 in winnings + $69,062 in bounties).
These two victories propelled Astedt to 14 career WCOOP titles. He now shares 2nd place in the historical rankings alongside Denis "aDrENalin710" Strebkov, trailing only Benny "RunGodlike" Glaser, who holds 16 titles.
Simon "C. Darwin2" Mattsson Dominates Opening PLO Event
The impressive Swedish performance began on the festival's first day with Simon "C. Darwin2" Mattsson in action.
Mattsson entered Sunday's tournament WCOOP 04-H: $1,050 PLO, which attracted 121 entries, creating a prize pool of $121,000. In the final heads-up, Mattsson outplayed Slovenian player Blaz "Scarmak3r" Zerjav to claim the top prize of $27,202.
Mattsson, who also boasts 14 SCOOP titles, earned his 4th career WCOOP title overall.
